This role gave me early exposure to software that mattered outside the immediate engineering team. The work sat in a public-health and regulatory context, which meant even routine changes had to respect operational continuity.
It also helped shape a skill that became useful throughout my career: being effective in existing systems that are already important, already in use, and not waiting for a rewrite before they deserve careful engineering.
